Dad left early this morning so it’s fitting to send him off highlighting his time in Australia.
I forgot to mention in the last post that Andrew and Dad took bikes out to ride trails at Sparrow Hill. They spent hours riding around having a great time and Andrew even saved Dad’s life, as the story now goes. They were riding down one of the trails and Andrew just avoided running over a snake, he quickly stopped Dad so he could avoid the snake. All very dramatic 🙂
Last Saturday I dragged everyone out of bed early to head to the Capital Farmers Market on the other side of Canberra. The point of the trip was to get Gum Tree Pies and Bombolini doughnuts. Bombolini’s was unfortunately not there that weekend, turns out we weren’t the only ones looking but Uncle Juan’s Bakehouse was a good alternative with a jam doughnut for Ev and pork and fennel sausage roll with beet sauce for Andrew.
The rest of use went for the crepes which my little seagull was quick to capitalise on, especially my strawberry and Nutella one.
Mom and I did some browsing and quickly filled out shopping bag before heading home.
Early in the week I won double passes to the Great Moscow Circus. Since Ev is under 3 this meant she could go for free so both Andrew and I were able to take her. We left Mom and Dad in charge of Izzy and headed out to see what Ev would think.
Arming ourselves with snacks we found our seats and settled in. The sad clown was the first to appear in the ring and I thought our circus adventure was going to be over before it began, Ev was not impressed with the clown and was in fact downright scared. To be fair the music was a hit sinister and adding in the low lights the whole thing would have been very eerie for her. She told us she wanted to go home but after some cuddles we were able to distract her with other performers.
By the end of the show she was right in to the whole thing even choosing what tricks to clap for with just mimicking us. She was tired but happily chatting with us about how the horses were her favourite and the motorbikes were very noisey. I’m really glad we were able to give her this experience and spend some time just with her.
Mom and I were planning on spending Sunday around the house with Ev watching a movie and doing our nails, you know, being very girlie, while Andrew and Dad headed out to a Raiders game. We got a call from Will and Pip in the morning though asking if ewe wanted to join them for apple picking out in Pialligo, since Ev never misses an opportunity to hang out with Isla we were soon out the door.
It was the last day of apple picking and well worth it, the kids had a blast running through the trees and finding ripe apples to pick. We ended up coming home with 5kg worth, needless to say Ev couldn’t carry the bucket herself.
Apple picking worked up an appetite so we walked down to Rodney’s for snacks and a play on the playground to get out any leftover energy.
Andrew was officially back at work this week so we kept things fairly low key with walks to the library or the park, trampoline jumping and pie baking although Mom and Dad did go for a long bike ride with Paul and Judy which, of course, involved a stop for refreshments.
We’ll be sad to see Dad go but this just means we can start looking forward to his next trip. At least we sent him off with a belly full of pie.
