It has been raining the past few days, which is real the only reason I’ve been able to catch up on the blog.
Saturday saw the arrival of the Manz and Morris families, we were only missing two of the Manz children + partners which is very good for one of our gatherings. The Manz’s and Morris’ are families my parents befriended when they moved to Vermont 30+ years ago. Through countless moves everyone has remained friends and the parents have been doing Valentine’s Day together for as many years as I can remember with just a break in the middle when we lived in Texas. Here is the menu for the 25th year of dinners they did which gives you a good idea of what they do.
Us kids are around the same age and spent life growing up together so it’s always cause for celebration when we can get together.
The rain didn’t deter anyone and within seconds of the Manz adults arriving they had erected a shelter outside for us to congregate under, because a Manz is always prepared.
Before everyone arrived Andrew and I volunteered to run out to a local brewery, The Flying Goose, to refill our growlers. We took Ev with us because it’s becoming a tradition when we travel to the states to bring her to a brewery.
The time with the Manz and Morris families was spent eating, drinking and catching up, there aren’t many pictures as we were too busy to remember to pick up our phones, something I was admonished for the next day when I revealed that at the end of the night I left Andrew on the por hint playing guitar while Thomas sang, something we probably should actually have a record of. The parents left us at a reasonable hour and returned the next morning with Stephanie’s famous sticky buns. I haven’t had these in almost 6 years and they’re just as good as I always remember, a perfect note to end this on.
