I’m sure this will come as a big surprise to everyone but international travel with two kids is exhausting, as is a holiday in general with two kids and we kept ours jammed packed until the last.
Our last weekend in the states was set aside to give three generations of friends time together. Friday afternoon my mom’s friend Gail arrived with her daughter, my friend, Michelle, and Michelle’s daughter, Ev’s friend, Haley.
Gail’s other daughter Caitlin joined us on Saturday which rounded out the fun filled weekend.
To keep things interesting we lost power Saturday afternoon which wasn’t restored until Sunday afternoon. Luckily I was able to pop out to a local shop for ice and water to save items in the fridge and the new local bakery, Tarte, to get coffees for all Sunday morning.
The girls had a great time dressing up, playing in the tent, swimming and making s’mores, it was awesome to see them interact so much.
We spent the last few days at The Cottage playing and spending time with family before heading back to Connecticut Tuesday afternoon to relax and pack at Mom and Dad’s, and a trip wouldn’t be complete without a last minute dash to the shops to buy another suitcase because everything doesn’t fit.
Mom was absolutely amazing, she not only drove us to the airport on Friday but she flew with us to LA and helped me herd the kids until we had to go through security for our flight. We were lucky enough to find a hotel near LAX that offered day rates until 8pm so we went there and spread ourselves out in the room, swam in the pool and had an early dinner at Denny’s before hopping our overnight flight to Sydney.
The flight is a bit of a blur trying to juggle two tiny children through 15 hours on a plane but we survived and that is all that can really matter. And the staff at Virgin Australia were a great help with everything including helping me put our bags away, watching the kids when I need to go to the bathroom or needed to take one of them and even carrying Ev to immigration when she fell getting off the plane.
Andrew met us when we got through security and we were so glad to see him. It’s been an adjustment getting back in to this time zone but we’re slowing making it. And now I get the fun of going through the pictures from my good camera and my instant camera which I’ll highlight in the next week which means the holiday can live on for a bit longer.
